Social Media For Your Business (presentation)
I’ve had the good fortune of presenting more and more on social media. It’s a hot topic right now and it’s important to learn from the right people (I’m currently working on a post “Is your social media expert really an expert?”). You’ll notice in this presentation that I don’t spend a lot of time talking about the tools. I believe it’s essential to provide context about social media, talk about it as a part of an overall strategy and what integration means and looks like. For those in the business world, I talk about social media and how it applies to: public relations, marketing, advertising, business development, customer service and internal communications. Inherent in this presentation is the idea that social media DOES NOT mean signing up for Twitter and Facebook.
I’m in the process of uploading all of my presentations to SlideShare and am happy to share with my network. You’ll notice certain slides are used in almost all of my presentations (e.g. overview of online communities). However, all of my presentations are crafted for the specific audience and may contain information essential to that particular group of individuals.

Thanks for a safe place to read about this stuff. As a senior executive in the firm I am an accomplished former reporter and somewhat accomplished PR person, but the new stuff is a little out of my comfort zone. Trying to get my arms around it. But the “experts” in my office seem to think that I don’t know anything! I still know good PR and I understand that integration is everything.

If you were to create a social network such as myspace or facebook would you (a) pay someone else to do the coding (you organise all the other jobss e.g. financing, employment etc) or would you rather (b) Code yourself but it would be slower than getting someone else to do it plus more work, tho you can customise the site the way you like. Also do you use (i) Facebook (ii) Myspace (iii) Other ? please state that would be helpful. Lastly, do you know any corporate companies you can partner with to develop a search advertising campaign, so like have sponsered links on your own site? Please label all the questions because that would be much easier and better laid out.

I’m still shocked that businesses large and small aren’t taking advantage of the great resources social media makes available. It’s so easy to get a return on the time spent if you interact with your customers and listen to what they want.
Also, I think that the point about giving customers a reason to visit your site by creating a blog or social hub is a great idea. Any opportunity that they have to learn more about your business without straying from your website will help increase conversion rates.
