What buzzwords do you want to do away with in 2010?

web buzz photoIndustry buzzwords and phrases are everywhere. These words emerge as the new “hip” or “it” name for something that either didn’t exist or because the previous buzz word went out of vogue.

As we prepare for a new year full of possibilities for new buzz words, I wanted to know what words or phrases YOU THINK will be out of style for 2010.

I received many nominations submitted via Facebook and Twitter which are listed below. You can vote here or suggest your own words/phrases in the comments section, below. Vote for as many words as you like.

I’m surprised no one nominated “I’mma let you finish but…” Perhaps it’s burned out sufficiently on its own?

I will submit the word “epic” — as in “This album is epic,” “It was an epic show,” etc. Folks writing about Gilgamesh and Odysseus exempted, of course.

Voted for IRL — I’d hate to make people think the “social media” me is any different from “me IRL.” Voted for social media expert and thinking about starting a penny jar in the office for every time we hear that phrase. And voted for “recession” — who needs that?

This isn’t a buzzword, per se, but have you noticed most tech speakers begin either the answer to a question or a long story with the word “so”? When did that start? It feels like you’re all copying one seminal “so” user, now long forgotten.

I love when individuals start a conversation with, “Basically”.

Usually to describe something highly technical or complex.

–Most of the time though they end up using many other terms not understood by most in attendance.

ROI is actually important. But people who have no idea what they’re talking about, got hold of it, took it back to the shed, and beat it to death.

I really don’t like “with all due respect”. It hugely disingenuous.

Can we please add epic to the list? I started the #phrasebury meme last year and retired the top entry. I’m glad to see that abbreviation isn’t on your list, but unfortunately it still hasn’t been retired by all of the masses. This year, fail will be my retired word, and possibly one or two others.

Here’s example of what the link looks like for WWAH and you can generate as many links as you want. To get onto their ad network start using the Web Traffic Flow Ad Generator, this is a real easy editor that will produce your ad; it takes you step by step through the process. Since the link generator is what you will be using most of the time they have placed this at the top of the page for quick access. All of your links are laid out with the five most recent links on the main page, the rest are laid out in the order you created them.
