We all know brands are jumping into the social media waters. Each day I see more advertisements, websites and print pieces showcasing a presence on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and the like. But, what are they actually doing when they get there? Let’s give them some advice.

Let me know what YOU want from brands via social media.

I think it really depends on the type of brand. If it is something shopping related I’d want to see deals or special offers. Other brands I might me more interested about hearing about company news or product announcements. I don’t think getting too many brands into social networking is a good thing though. In time this will dilute those networks with a ton of spam and sales pitches.

That is an interesting poll, and I have yet to see a poll put out there like this in a blog. What a neat thing for you to use. I was really surprised about how many people that didn’t want these in whatever social platform they use, it was extremely low.

Big companies always give me a sense of distance and if they appear in social media, it will be nice if they can shorten the distance by allowing us to connect in a more personal level.

Imagine you have a problem with a product and their management reply to you in the social media platform. I will be a loyal customer forever.

Really it would be great if brands accomplished all of this with their social networking efforts. Then they can keep everyone happy.

I’d like to see more personalization based on my surfing tendencies. With Facebook creeping into virtually every site now, that should be easy to do because it can then communicate to the site what my interests are. I think that’s the positive way to go. Of course, one hopes it’s done without too much intrusion or it will backfire on them.

    Till then,

I can’t imagine this trend stopping anytime soon. I think all the Social Media Monsters will be wrestling each other for space on all the smaller up and coming media properties over the years to follow. 3 years ago I only heard of a few Social Media Sites like Myspace, Youtube and Facebook. Now it seems like thousands of smaller ones have penetrated the internet.

I watch out for news and updates for any brand that I follow on Twitter. I also look out for promos and offers, if there’s any.

I had no clue. I really do like these polls you have started using. I like to keep my personal life and work separate and I like my facebook and other things to be fun and light, not an area where my boss is checking up on me, or the other myriad of things I can think of. Sure I have a few co workers on there but still, I don’t want to be bombarded with adds just like I don’t want to connect with my boss on that level.

This has a an auroa that can’t be shaken. Smells like a paid corporate promotion. What about some disclosure – that comcast and ford’s summaries sounds a tad bit too advertising in nature.

Obviously following/friending a brand online is not for everyone. There are people who would rather not have anything to do with ads when using social media. Then there are other people who are passionate about certain brands or they just have a genuine interest in the company or their products.

Ok so I put my vote in, hope it helps. If anything the biggest thing social media should do is connect with people on a more personal level. Especially if its a famous person.

I can agree with that, Komodo Dragon. The possibilities of this type of social medium really befits the relationship between a famous personality and his or her fanbase like no other medium before it. Not many have learnt how to use it to their best advantage yet. But those who have, have benefited enormously from it in terms of padding their popularity levels.

    Till then,
