HOW TO: Opt out of Facebook facial recognition (quick tip)

Facebook rolled out a new feature that makes tagging friends easier in photos. You may not know this, but you’re automatically “enrolled” in this new feature by default. If you don’t want Facebook to “recognize” faces in the photos you post, you can turn it off. Here’s how:

  1. Go to your privacy settings.
  2. Click “Customize settings.”
  3. Scroll down to “Things others share.”
  4. Find “Suggest photos of me to friends.”
  5. Update your settings.

    Sarah,
Do you ever feel like social media is like bowling or golf? So many rules to remember before you roll your first ball or take your first swing. But I’m happy you’re sharing! Thanks.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Sarah. Had no idea we were enrolled in this feature by default. I wish Facebook wouldn’t do this everytime, and would actually ask the users if they want it enabled or not.

Thank you for this article- I had no idea! FB isn’t my favorite, but I do use it and really don’t like this feature. On my way to tweak my settings now.
