How many hours does neck surgery take?
The area for surgery is often marked to make sure there are no errors. You will be kept comfortable and safe by your anesthesia provider. You will be asleep during the surgery. The surgery will take about 2 to 4 hours.
What is head and neck surgery? Head and neck surgery is used to treat conditions affecting the mouth, head, throat, glands and sinuses, as well as both benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) tumors in the head and neck region.
Most people are able to go back to work in 2 to 3 weeks. Ask your provider when is it is OK for you to return to work. You will be able to drive when you can turn your shoulder far enough to see safely. Do not drive while you are taking strong (narcotic) pain medicine.
How Long Will I Be In Hospital For? If you only have a neck dissection, you may be able to go home after just 3 days. If you've had any additional surgery, a stay of 1-2 weeks is more common. If you have any complications you may be in for more than 2 weeks.
Neck Surgery Process While patients can usually go home within a few days after their surgery, recovery time is longer. Patients will have to adhere to rules that are put in place to keep them safe and to let the surgery heal.
