What happens inside a love hotel?
As the name suggests, the main purpose of love hotels is to provide couples with a room to spend some undisturbed time together. The rooms are equipped according to their purpose with large double beds, a television offering erotic programs, a nice bathroom, etc.
Love hotels can usually be identified using symbols such as hearts and the offer of a room rate for a "rest" (休憩, kyūkei) as well as for an overnight stay. The period of a "rest" varies, typically ranging from one to three hours. Cheaper daytime off-peak rates are common.
At first glance, it is very clean. This is because the entire area is cleaned at least once daily, and simple cleaning is also done after short stays. Therefore, there is no such thing as dirty sheets or pillowcases, or wet towels. You may find sleeping in some hotels slightly uncomfortable.
Love hotels are, essentially, normal hotels except that you can pay by the hour and are rarely allowed to remain for longer than 24 hours. They do, however, contain a few added quirks like adult channels as standard on the TV, and some sex toys in the vending machine.
